It’s getting darker and the holiday season is fast approaching. As the temperatures drop, your home should be a calm and cosy sanctuary. This month, we are focusing on decluttering and organising our kitchen and bathroom. Let us help you to get ready to open your doors and share your space with friends and family this season.

The Kitchen “The heart of the home”
Your kitchen should be filled with food you enjoy and items that serve a purpose. Kitchens should never feel cluttered or overflowing with gadgets you rarely use.
Start by emptying one cupboard at a time, consider grouping together items such as; food, crockery, baking utensils, Tupperware etc, not forgetting “that draw” which you have filled with paperwork, batteries and other bits which don’t belong in the kitchen.
Once you have done this, look at what you have. Do you have multiples items that serve the same purpose? Consider, when did you last use it? Is it sentimental to you? Make a pile of the things you no longer need. Anything redundant should be repurposed or donated to someone who can make use of it. If it is broken and can’t be fixed, throw it away!
Containers or bins are a useful way to store your pasta, rice, cereals and nuts. You don’t have to decant everything into jars, but if this does sounds appealing, there are a range of storage options available to you.
Clean the inside of your cupboards, before placing everything neatly back, checking the used by dates as you go. Don’t forget your fridge and freezer, the same rules apply!
Never underestimate the time it’s going to take to sort and declutter your kitchen. Consider setting aside a few hours over a couple of weekends, tackling two or three cupboards each time. It won’t be long before you can sit back and enjoy your new clutter free kitchen!
The Bathroom
This shouldn’t take long to get straight. There’s likely to be makeup or mens grooming products and daily skincare items laying around. Your vanity units might be cluttered with toiletries, toilet paper as well as other items that you use less often like face masks and nail polishes.
The first step is to clear all your products from the cupboards, drawers and surfaces.

Thoroughly clean before disposing of anything you no longer use. Consider donating these to a ‘Beauty Bank’, which supports people living in poverty, by providing personal care products to those who can’t afford it.
If you have a shared bathroom, each member might benefit from having their own shelf or a basket for their belongings. Consider if you need more storage? Will a cupboard fit in the bathroom or can you place a shelf on the wall?
Out of date make up can harbour bacteria. Did you know for example, that mascara and eyeliner should be used within three months of opening, eyeshadow and lip gloss in 12 months, and powders and lipsticks, twenty four months!
Last but not least, don’t forget your medicine cupboard. Whether this is kept in your kitchen or bathroom, now is the ideal time to replenish your medicines and vitamins and remove those items that have expired.
